Release The Twitch Files

Americans deserve to see what Twitch, Reddit, Discord, and Steam told Congress about online radicalization. Demand full transparency from the House Oversight Committee.

Creator Caucus Leader Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne is poised to help!

We want these 3 Things

1

Release the full transcripts of the November 2025 Oversight Committee interviews with Twitch, Reddit, Discord, and Steam.

Rep. Van Duyne can help make this happen. If her office calls the Oversight Committee to demand the release of the transcripts, the documents would be made public quickly.

2

Say what was discussed in the December 5th meeting with Dan Clancy and Rep. Van Duyne.

Government and corporate lobbying is opaque. I and other creators want to know what goes on in these meetings. Are you asking the Twitch CEO tough questions? Is he lobbying you to support certain legislation? Or is it just a friendly, informative meeting to help Congress understand the industry? The creator industry has a stake in our government, and it would be informative to them to understand how these relationships work in practice.

3

Share your views on Twitch’s handling of political extremism and its controversies.

Twitch has faced controversies around political extremism, including outed discoveries & documented instances of biased moderation, public support of designated terrorist organizations by some top creators, and geopolitical issues—such as the company accidentally blocking signups from Israel for a year. A public statement would help the creator community understand where Congress stands.

Why Beth Van Duyne

Rep. Van Duyne is the 24th District representative of Texas. She is the Republican lead of the newly formed Creator Caucus. This means she is the best person in the entire U.S. government to address creator economy concerns, such as this one.

Furthermore, despite her important government role in the space, few creators know about her. This needs to change. Creators, by the very nature of their public-facing job, are well positioned to discuss important issues affecting the space. Rep. Van Duyne should be publicly discussing these issues with creators and their communities.

Why Transparency Matters

In October 2025, the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform announced it would hold transcribed interviews with the general counsels of Discord, Reddit, Steam, and Twitch to examine the radicalization of online forum users, including instances of open incitement to commit politically motivated acts.

Chairman James Comer stated that “in the wake of the assassination of Charlie Kirk and other acts of politically motivated violence, Congress has a duty to oversee the online platforms that extremists have used to promote violence.” The Committee proceeded with transcribed interviews to obtain information from these companies about the actions they are taking to ensure their platforms are not exploited for nefarious purposes.

The interviews took place in November 2025 (Valve/Steam on November 4; Discord on November 12; Reddit on November 18; Twitch on November 20). To date, the full transcripts of these interviews have not been made public. Without public access to what was said under oath, the American people cannot hold platforms or lawmakers accountable. Releasing the transcripts is essential for informed public debate and for ensuring that congressional oversight translates into real accountability.

Why Twitch is in the spotlight

Public reporting and civil society groups have raised serious concerns about Twitch’s moderation decisions and platform policies. Transparency about what Twitch told Congress is especially important in this context.

Alleged signup restrictions in Israel

Following the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack, reports emerged that Twitch made it difficult or impossible for users in Israel to create new accounts—via both email and, according to some reports, mobile signup—for over a year. Twitch stated that email signups from Israel were suspended to prevent violent content from being broadcast and that mobile signups remained permitted; however, Israeli media (e.g. Ynet) and user reports suggested blocks persisted on both methods until public outcry led to a change. Releasing the Oversight Committee’s Twitch transcript would clarify what the company told Congress about these policies and their rationale.

Criticism from civil society

Civil society organizations have criticized Twitch for platforming content they describe as antisemitic and supportive of terrorism, and for perceived inconsistencies in enforcing community guidelines that prohibit content that “depicts, glorifies, encourages, or supports terrorism.” Whether and how Twitch addressed these concerns in its transcribed interview is a matter of public interest. Making the transcript public would allow the public to evaluate Twitch’s responses and hold both the company and Congress accountable.

Releasing the full transcript of the Committee’s November 2025 interview with Twitch would help the public understand what commitments, if any, were made and how the platform intends to address radicalization and harmful content.

A request of Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne

Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne represents Texas’s 24th Congressional District, chairs the Congressional Creators Caucus, and is a member of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. She has met with Twitch CEO Dan Clancy; she posted on social media about having “an amazing conversation” with him and discussing “the Congress[ional] Creators Caucus” and related topics.

Because of her unique role—at the intersection of oversight, creator economy policy, and direct engagement with Twitch leadership—we ask Congresswoman Van Duyne to:

  • Support the public release of the full transcripts of the Oversight Committee’s November 2025 transcribed interviews with Twitch, Reddit, Discord, and Steam.
  • Publicly explain what was discussed in her meeting with Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, to the extent consistent with her duties and ethics rules.
  • Issue a clear public statement on Twitch’s approach to controversial content, including allegations of radicalization, platforming of extremist rhetoric, and political bias in moderation—and how she believes Congress should respond.

Transparency from both the Committee and from Rep. Van Duyne will help the public understand what platforms told Congress and what steps lawmakers are taking to ensure accountability.
